Passover Fish Recipes

Passover is considered to be one of the most significant and religious festivals in the Jewish calendar. The festival is celebrated to commemorate the freedom of the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt. The word Passover has been derived from the Hebrew root word ‘pesach’, which means ‘to pass over’. It falls on the 15th day of the month of Nisan in the Jewish calendar and is celebrated across seven or eight days. Passover is generally a family festival where the entire family gathers together for the first two nights and eats various traditional and symbolic foods. Fish Recipes For Pesach

Citrus Salmon Fillet

Ingredients
  • ½ cup (125 g) fresh Parsley (finely chopped)
  • ¾ cup (180 g) fresh Dill (finely minced)
  • 4 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1½ tbsp Olive Oil
  • 3 tbsp fresh Lemon Juice
  • 2 cups (500 ml) fresh Orange Juice
  • 6 Salmon Fillets
  • 3 tbsp Almonds (slivered and toasted)
  • 6 Lemon Slices
Instructions
  • Combine parsley, dill, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice and orange juice in a blender. Grind to a paste.
  • Take a baking dish and coat the bottom with half of the ground paste.
  • Place the salmon fillet on the paste and apply the remaining paste on the fillets.
  • Sprinkle almonds on top and cover the dish with foil.
  • Bake the salmon fillet at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 20 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and place the lemon slices on top.
  • Bake the preparation for another 5 minutes.
Baked Gefilte Fish Loaf

Ingredients
  • 1 large jar Gefilte Fish in broth
  • 2 large Onions
  • 2 large Carrots
  • 2 large ribs Celery
  • ¼ cup fresh Parsley
  • 4 Eggs (slightly beaten)
  • ½ cup Matzo Meal
  • ½ cup Mayonnaise
  • ½ -1 tsp Pepper
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • Paprika (to sprinkle)
Instructions
  • Separate the gefilte fish from the broth.
  • Reserve ½ cup of the broth and discard the remaining.
  • Combine onions, carrots, celery and parsley together in a food processor. Chop the vegetables finely.
  • Place the fish in a large bowl and mash it.
  • Add the broth and chopped vegetables. Mix well.
  • Add in eggs, matzo meal, mayonnaise, pepper and sugar. Mix.
  • Transfer the mixture into a greased 9x13 inch pan.
  • Sprinkle paprika on top.
  • Bake the mixture at 325 degrees F for one hour.
  • Serve warm on a piece of lettuce along with beet horseradish sauce.
