Passover Recipes For Kids

Passover, known as Pesach in Hebrew, is a religious festival observed by Jewish community to commemorate Israel's freedom from slavery under the Egyptians. Passover is a seven day festival which begins on 15th day of Nisan month in Jewish calendar. Passover is one of the three important Jewish festivals, the other two festivals being Sukkot and Shavu'ot. Passover festival is also widely known as "Feast of Unleavened Bread" because according to the biblical records, the Israelites hastily departed and could not wait for bread to leaven. So to observe the festive occasion, no leaven bread is eaten during the festival. Passover festival is generally preceded by Jewish families making grand preparations for the upcoming festival. Cleaning and preparing traditional food form major part Pesach celebrations. Children eagerly wait for Passover delicacies and sweets. The festival is celebrated with family get together and feasting on lip-smacking delicacies. For children, it is mainly sweets for them.

Pesach Recipes for Kids

Pesach Toffee Squares Recipe
Ingredients
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) Butter, softened
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup Matzo Cake Meal
  • 1 1/2 cups Milk Chocolate Chips
Instructions
  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • Beat butter and sugar together in a large bowl and make it fluffy and light.
  • Put egg and beat well.
  • Add salt, vanilla and cake meal; and mix them well
  • Bake for 20 minutes
  • Smear oil at the bottom of jellyroll pan and spread the dough evenly into the pan.
  • Before preparing cookies, make sure you melt chocolate chips on high power in the microwave and stir it every 30 seconds.
  • After cookies are done, remove them from the oven, cover with the melted chocolate.
  • Let it cool and then cut into squares. Your Pesach Toffee Squares are now ready to serve.
Pesach Cottage-Cheese Chremslach
Ingredients
  • 1 cup 4% Cottage Cheese
  • 1 cup Matzo Meal
  • 4 Eggs
  • ¾ cup Milk (whole or low-fat)
  • ¾-1 tsp Salt
  • Grape seed/ other acceptable Passover oil
  • 2 tbsp Butter (for flavor)
  • 1 tbsp Sugar (optional)
Instructions
  • Put eggs, cottage cheese, milk, salt and sugar in a large mixing bowl and beat well.
  • Add matzo meal and stir well. Set it aside for 10 minutes.
  • Add oil in a 10 to 12 inch skillet to cover the bottom and heat on medium flame.
  • Pour ¼ cup of the batter into the skillet such that it takes the shape of a pancake.
  • Fry for about 60 to 90 seconds until the first side gets golden brown.
  • Turn the pancake over and fry for another 30 seconds.
  • Remove the pancake and drain on paper towels.
  • Repeat with the remaining batter.
  • Serve hot.
Pesach Biscotti Recipe
Ingredients
  • 2 cups Matzo Cake Meal
  • 1/4 lb Butter
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Dried Apricots
  • 1 1/2 cup Ground Pistachios
  • 1 1/2 cup Whole Pistachios
  • 1 grated rind of Orange
Instructions
  • Use stand mixer with paddle attachment, cream butter and sugar.
  • Add eggs and mix rind, cake meal, nuts and dried apricots.
  • Put dough in refrigerator for 1 hour.
  • Take dough onto work surface sprinkled with cake meal.
  • Make dough into 4 logs.
  • Bake in 350°F oven for about 15 minutes until it turns light golden brown.
  • Keep it in refrigerator for 1 hour.
  • Slice logs at 1/2-inch intervals and then transfer to baking sheet.
  • Bake in 275°F oven until surface feels dry.
Coconut Meringue Macaroons
Ingredients
  • ½ tsp Vanilla
  • 2 Egg Whites
  • 1/8 tsp Salt
  • 1 2/3 Sweetened Flaked Coconut
  • 2/3 cup Sugar
Instructions
  • Combine egg whites, vanilla and salt together in a medium bowl.
  • Beat the mixture until it forms soft peaks.
  • Add sugar and beat again to form stiff peaks.
  • Add in the flakes coconut and mix gently.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Grease a baking sheet.
  • With the help of an ice cream scoop, drop the coconut mixture onto the baking sheet.
  • Bake for about 15 to 20 minutes till they are lightly browned.
